Sarah Palin being all the hype that she is has drawn a considerable amount of interest regarding her March speaking engagement at CSU Stanislaus. Questions remain whether the CSU Stanislaus Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization is subject to the California Public Records Act like CSU Stanislaus is. The Foundation contends they are not and that they are a distinct separate entity from the school, despite the Chairman being the CSU Stanislaus Chairman, despite their address being the same as the schools, despite their organization being listed on the schools official website. Here is what the California Attorney General’s office has on the CSU Stanislaus Foundation’s charity registration. Here is a copy of their 2007 IRS Form 990.

California State Senator Leland Yee has been investigating whether CSU Stanislaus and CSU Stanislaus Foundation are evading the CPRA by their refusal to produce the public records regarding the decision to invite and pay for Sarah Palin’s speaking engagement.
