FBI shadow

Okay, so the headline is a little misleading, but in the case of Peter J. Hidalgo v. FBI, USDC D.C. #06-1513 (JR) parts of it must be disclosed. Scott A. Hodes a Washington D.C. FOIA attorney and author of The FOIA Blog recently provided this snippet:

The FBI has lost its attempt to protect information about its relationship with a confidential informant. Judge James Robertson of the District Court for the District of Columbia has ruled that the FBI must release information about the FBI’s relationship with informant Manny Sanchez to requester Peter J. Hidalgo. Hidalgo was found guilty of various crimes, due in part, to information provided by Sanchez.

If you read the ruling you’ll learn that Hidalgo has had numerous battles with the FBI over his requests, and at one point as US District Judge James Robertson articulates, “He has pursued the documents at issue for a decade, at one point with the pro bono assistance of a former Solicitor General of the United States.”
