Detroit Jigalo Mayor Kwame Malik Kilpatrick is in a bunch of hot water. Indicted for perjury. Imagine that, another politician facing criminal charges and one who cheats on his wife. Sure, Christine Beatty is no “Kristen” and probably did not cost nearly as much money, she lied under oath and is also going to be held accountable for her actions. Copies of some of the steamy text messages are inside.
The reason this story is so sensational is the fact that the Mayor a member of the Executive Branch sworn into office, LIED under oath and his mistress, um I mean aide also lied under oath, denying any romantic relationship. The problem is that the two couldn’t keep their fingers from texting each other back and forth capturing their lustful feelings for each other. did I mention the fact that they were married? No, not married to each other, but to someone else!!! A lot of this came to light during the Whistleblower lawsuit filed by two police officers who were unjustly fired by the Detroit Police. The staggering costs to defend Mayor Kilpatrick in the whistleblower suit were in the $800,000’s (and they lost). A complete breakdown including .pdf’s are available at Detroit News.

During my research for this post I became overwhelmed by the numerous documents I found from the Detroit City Counsel’s Resolution requesting that the Mayor resign, the inquiries into the mysterious death of someone attending a party the Mayor allegedly hosted. There is so much out there and the Detroit News has a Special Report: Detroit’s mayor under fire. You should visit it.
The irony of this entire fiasco is the Memorandum on Electronic Communication and how emails, phone messages, etc. are all subject to Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act. Mayor Kilpatrick signed off on the very law used by the Detroit News to obtain copies of the secret settlement agreement. You know the one, the one that City Counsel denied existed, and not until the lawyer for one of the police officers was deposed. Yes, the lawyer was deposed in the public records act lawsuit. You can read the deposition transcript.
